G.rant tells us about himself with a simple Q&A
Q1 Who is G.rant?
46 yr old dreamer with insomnia. I'm nicer than I appear.
Q2 where do you get your inspiration?
Everywhere really, things I see and read. My former job of 21 years was packing fine art from some of my favourite artists. That certainly had a major influence on me. Dealing with depression, addiction and several near life experiences may be responsible for the slightly dark element that appears just occasionally in my work.
Q3 Did you have any formal training?
No none other than art lessons at secondary school. After leaving at 16 I drew very occasionally but life and work took over and so up until around 2 years ago when I started drawing again in an attempt to occupy my mind after having done my best to numb it for years. I hadn't drawn at all for at least 25 years. It was a nice revelation to discover I was still able to produce a half decent picture I must say.
Q4 How would you describe your style?
Dark with a little humour thrown in i'd say. My friends are of the opinion that I have an unhealthy obsession with skulls but surely everyone loves a skull, don't they?
Q5 What artists inspire you?
I love Warhol, Lichtenstein, Peter Blake, Lucian Freud, Frances Bacon, Emin, Hurst, Wei Wei, Static, Jimmy Caughty, Banksy, Magnus Goushion, Willy Verginer(best name ever) Giger.... so street and pop art, graphic novels are my thing.
Q6 What does Sentiment mean to you?
Sharing a love of something or someone with something or someone.
