Carole Lucas
Carole tells us about herself with a simple Q&A
Q1. Who is Carole Lucas?
I’ve always been a creative soul. From an early age I have demonstrated an
artistic talent and have continued to bring my creative passion to fruition.
My professional portfolio spans 25 years in the world of Design.
I initially trained as a Graphic designer but quickly the industry moved away from
drawing to computers and not wishing to embrace this new medium I decided to
dabble in the world of Airbrushing in the motorcycle scene.
Q2. Where do you get your inspiration?
Fast forward many years and many ventures I now work from my studio in North London where I find my inspiration to paint. My work features mainly photorealism airbrush work. Airbrushing was one of the most popular forms of art during the 1970’s to 80’s and is now enjoying a revival back to ‘old school’ techniques. I have been mastering the technique of custom airbrushing/painting and I’m still learning.
Everywhere I go really, things I see on a day -to- day basis. It is a little unconventional but Nature is a big artistic influence - to me nothing beats the beauty you see in nature.
I’m happily very busy in my studio working on various projects for fashion designers, the automotive industry, photorealistic portraits and murals, bespoke guitar projects etc.
Q3. Did you have any training?
I completed a 1 year Fine Art foundation course and a 4 year Diploma in Art & Design. I am self taught in the technique of using an Airbrush.
Q4. How would you describe your art?
I am drawn to photorealism, especially when people find it hard to believe it’s not a photograph! Using an airbrush allows me to create a more subtle transition from one colour and hue to another to give it a natural look with little surface texture.
Q5. What artists inspire you?
I’m inspired by art from my favourite Contemporary airbrush artists. I’ve been a long- time admirer of the Japanese illustrator Hajime Sorayama, widely know for his hyperrealistic work, and other futuristic illustrators such as Roger Dean and Peter Jones
Q6. What does Sentiment mean to you?
It’s a great way to reach a wider audience to represent my creative vision and hopefully reflect my own artistic perspective. I’m honoured to be a part of this original project bringing together many artists with a unique take on their own art, bringing a sense of connectivity to this puzzle.
