Rosso Emerald Crimson
Rosso tells us about herself with a simple Q&A
Q1. Who is Rosso?
Artist, Mother, Italian by birth, Londoner by choice. Addicted to painting portraits,
especially portrait of women.
Q2. Where do you get your inspiration?
Beauty, colours, perfumes, music, poetry, but also emotions, both expressed and
repressed feelings, human interactions.
I know every single event around me, everything visible and invisible, every word said, leaves impressions in me which eventually feed into my art, in very mysterious ways.
Q3. Did you have any training?
I am mostly self-taught, with the exception of a few painting workshops attended with some established artists whose technique I really liked.
Q4. How would you describe your art?
I remember years ago, when I started, I coined this expression , 'transitional realism'. The idea was that my art was 'transiting' from realism into an imaginary, almost dreamy, realm.
I have rarely used that term although I believe this connotation, the 'blurring of edges' of realities, still applies today, despite the evolution in style.
Q5. What artists inspire you?
I am deeply drawn by the figurative artists of the late 19th century/early 20th century, from neorealist to impressionists to expressionist artists.
They all paved the way to today's greatest artists. One of the many contemporary artists that I love and would like to mention is Lita Cabellut.
Q6. What does Sentiment mean to you?
Sentiment, in Italian, my native language, refers to an intimate feeling.
It's nice to think about this project as connecting various people with artists globally in such an intimate way.
This stunning painting is of Rosso's daughter and explores many paint techniques of oil paint, stencilling and spray paint. Simply stunning.
In collaboration with Rosso we have created a canvas and divided into 1000 pieces in the iconic jigsaw shape allowing friends, family and fellow art lovers to connect to her story.
Each piece is mounted on a 24-carat gold leaf base with a thread of gold running through This connects all the pieces together and to the artist and in turn all the artists in the Sentiment collection.
Framed in a black wooden box frame, signed and numbered ready to share and be collected.
