Samantha tells us about herself with a simple Q&A

Q1. Who is Samantha?

I am a Tattooist and Artist from Stamford, Lincolnshire. I have been a tattooist for the
last two years focussing on Ornamental, Geometric, black and grey, line work and
surrealism. I donʼt really use colour in my Tattooing which is largely why I go big and
bright with my paintings. Before my art journey I was a Performer graduating from
The Urdang Academy. This career gave me a lot of opportunities to travel and
experience places, people and cultures.

The place that influenced me the most was India, the colours, celebrations and
community really stuck with me. I lived there for two years and when I left I decided
to teach myself how to do Henna. Long long story short this eventually lead into tattooing and my absolute love for the Ornamental style of tattooing! Within this time I had also started to paint again, I hadnʼt done this since secondary school. I was instantly painting the complete opposite of what I was tattooing. Iʼve worked hard to create the style I paint now, but itʼs still evolving and changing each time I paint and I love that.

Q2. Where do you get your inspiration?

Iʼm a huge fan of animals and nature, I always find myself drawn to them. I use a lot of photography for reference, I just know when Iʼve found an image I want to paint!

Q3. Did you have any training?

I trained in Tattooing, I did a years apprenticeship before I got my License. My tattoo mentor is an incredible artist as well as tattooist. He gave me so much advice with painting.

Q4. How would you describe your art?

Iʼd describe my art as Abstract portraits

Q5. What artists inspire you?

I love the works of Chris Guest, Ashley Longshore, Jenny Saville, Heather

Day, just to name a few! There are so many who influence me in different ways. There are many tattooists whoʼs art inspires both through their tattooing and artwork.

Q6. What does Sentiment mean to you?

It has previously felt like moments of nostalgia but now it feels like unity, especially in the current times.
