Szylk Wane
Szylk tells us about herself with a simple Q&A
Q1. Who is Szylk?
I am an artist with an urge of getting my hands dirty. Don’t mind the material as long
as I can experiment with it and find the sweet spot that works for me. However in the
past few years I have been more interested in graffiti and street art related projects
as In my option, nothing can compete with a huge blank wall in the world of art.
From a young age I have shown great interest of drawing and painting, finishing
college than university, getting a degree in Art has been great, and I did learn a lot
during those years, but graffiti set me free.
Q2. Where do you get your inspiration?
Anywhere really. Feelings, sounds, dreams, fashion, photography, nature, interesting colour schemes or patterns, mood, comics, curvy women.. its really hard to tell. I keep a few inspiration folders on my phone so I can save quickly, whatever touch my soul. I feel deeply connected to the 1950s the pop art and seccesion architecture, and 1980s hiphop culture.
Q3. Did you have any training?
Yes, I am a classically trained and by my qualifications I am a gobelin tapestry artist and teacher of art.
Q4. How would you describe your art?
Round shapes sharp outlines flat colours and quite eclectic at times. Id like to think you could sense a hint of pinup in my work although I have been told many times that my female characters look like me somehow even though every single one have different features, they are part of me.
Q5. What artists inspire you?
I love the work of Olivia de Berardinis, and of course the three French graces of graffiti Fafi, Miss Van, Mademoiselle Kat.
Q6. What does Sentiment mean to you?
Its a fantastic way to connect people through continents combined with mystery and joy. Knowing that I’m the one of the handful of people who saw the full piece in its whole physically, connecting me to every single collector and on top of that they are all connected to each other with the golden thread its a one of a kind, delightful feeling I can’t describe.
