Ruth tells us about herself with a simple Q&A

Q1 Who is Ruth?

I am an illustrator and printmaker. I work on commissions, create designs for limited edition screen prints and have illustrated a couple of books. I love all different styles of architecture and interior design.

Q2 Where do you get your inspiration?

I am inspired by architecture, mid-century design and interior design. I research for my illustrations and deigns by looking through magazines, books and everyday life.

Q3 Did you have any training?

I studied my degree in textiles & illustration at Bradford & Ilkley College. It was whilst on my degree that I started to develop my drawing style which has continued to be the most important part of my practice.

Q4 How would you describe your art?

I produce illustrative line drawings using a continuous line. I take my inspiration from mid-century design and off set colour and pattern from my line. These will then either develop into a screen print design, original line drawing or a larger scale piece on canvas.

Q5 What artists inspire you?

I am inspired by Mid-century design and in particular the work of Lucienne Day which my art tutor introduced me to whilst on my degree. I have never looked back! I adore it!

Q6 What does Sentiment mean to you?

Affection, emotion and a feeling.
