Kim tells us about herself with a simple Q&A

Who is Kim?

I am an artistic person at heart, and I enjoy creating things that express how I feel. I grew up in a creative family doing a lot of different things like drawing, sewing, woodworking, baking, crafts and gardening. I spent most of my childhood in Southern Alaska, but ended up in Northern Norway as an adult. Both have amazing landscapes. I love hiking and taking pictures of the beautiful nature up here.

I had wanted to become an artist and create paintings that expressed a part of me since highschool. Thirty years later, I finally followed that dream and am now painting little parts of myself on large canvases for the most part, and loving it!

Q2 Where do you get your inspiration?

I am inspired by my surroundings. I can see a shadow falling just so, or the colors of the flowers and foliage on the mountain tops, or a piece of a photograph that inspires me, or the sunlight bathing the landscape, and that might spark an idea that I want to create on canvas. Or sometimes I just gather paint colors that I want to see together, dip my paintbrush in, and paint by feeling. Inspiration can come from so many things.

Q3 Did you have any formal training?

I had taken an art class in highschool as an elective, but that covered a lot of different types of art, not just painting, so I hadn't gotten much more than an interest in painting and the very basics back then. When I finally decided to start painting again, I took an online class from @ArtbyHegeK and that's just what I needed to get started. She was very inspiring.

Q4 How would you describe your art?

I'm not sure how to describe my art to others. I guess I would say that my art is abstract pieces of me on canvas. I love earthy color combinations, but I also love bright, happy colors. Kind of like me. Down to earth, and often with a smile on my face.

Q5 Which artists inspire you?

A lot of artists inspire me. I love how many different ways art can be expressed. I could probably name a hundred different artists that have sparked something inside of me making me want to create artwork of my own. I guess I'm mostly inspired by current artists like @artbyhegek , @artby_anitasteinset , @roperoegea, @karen_hale_paintings, @miriam.smidt, @mara_paints, and @giomimiart just to name a few. Lots of different styles and types of artwork, but the thing they have in common is that I can see that they're creating their passion, and that's very inspiring to me.

Q6 What does Sentiment mean to you?

Sentiment is a very unique and exciting project. I was very honored to be asked to take part. I love the concept of sharing a piece of Sentiment through the medium of art. It is perfectly aligned with my intention of sharing pieces of myself through my art.
